While our mixed martial arts program boasts many competitive fighters, it is safe for anyone, of any age, with varying levels of competitiveness. Our classes are a great way to get in shape by training how the pro's do!
At Defensive Edge, we are pround to be an American Top
Team School. Our mixed martial art (MMA) fighters are trained in a combined variety of styles that have been proven effective in the ring or cage, so that they can be effective in all the phases of sport combat. Although most fighters tend to have their particular specialties and preferences, our fighters train for all aspects of fighting.
A stand-up fighting specialist will train how not to get taken down while a submission specialist might need to fight standing-up for a while before he can execute a takedown.
Most fighters on our team also train in our Brazilain Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai programs to enhance their ground fighting and striking skills respectively. Both styles, are known for their effectiveness, and have been very well represented in all major Mixed Martial Arts events.

Muay Thai, and other various forms of Boxing, kickboxing, and full contact Martial Arts are trained to improve footwork, elbowing, kicking, kneeing and punching.
While Muay Thai is trained to improve the striking aspect of the clinch, Freestyle wrestling, Greco-Roman wrestling, Sambo, and Judo skills are also trained to improve clinching, takedowns and throws.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is our primary resource for ground fighting. However, shoot wrestling, catch wrestling, Judo, and Sambo skills are also trained to improve submission holds, and defense against them.
So
metimes, these styles have to be adapted slightly for use in the sport. For example, several boxing stances are ineffective because they leave fighters vulnerable to leg kicks or takedowns. Similarly, Judo techniques have to be adapted to an opponent not wearing a judogi.
For our athletes, fighting skills are not enough. Mixed martial arts competition is very demanding physically, and the athletes need to be in top condition to be successful. Speed drills, Strength Training, Cardio and Flexibility are also employed to enhance our MMA fighter's training.
